Project Galleries - Historic Restoration Project Details
Gibb’s Building served as General Contractor for the raising and exterior restoration of this Arts and Crafts Bungalow style home. Originally built in 1939, Roy and Dot Wescott decided to close off the outside porch and fully brick their home twelve years later.
In 2013, their daughter hired Calvin to oversee the process of raising the home ten feet, removing the brick exterior exposing the original siding, and using family photographs to recreate the gable decorations.
Included in this restoration project was repair and replacement of windows, paving, sprayed insulation, roofing, custom under-skirting, and central air and heat installation. A new deck was built to enjoy the lofty views of land and water --keeping with the integrity of the overall project.
Both Calvin Gibb’s Building and John Wilson, a renovation architect, worked in tandem so that all necessary codes and permits were obtained.
Now, this Historic House is an official member of the Manteo Preservation Trust and the plaque is mounted on her restored childhood home.
